Ever thought it might be fun to get involved in local politics? I once did, and attended a campaign training seminar shortly after graduating from college. Since you know what ultimately happened to me, consider yourself forewarned. If undeterred, read on.
I received the following information in a recent e-mail (Editor’s note: as you’ll see, this opportunity is intended for those of the progressive persuasion. Similar opportunities exist for those with a more conservative approach, but I haven’t received an entreaty from that perspective recently.):

Political historians among us will recall Ms. Allen’s work on Tony Knowles’ two successful – though very, very close – mayoral campaigns in the 1980’s. In other words, she’s not some “outsider” coming to Alaska to tell us how to conduct our business. So if your list of New Year’s resolutions includes making a difference in local political discourse, here’s an opportunity. If not, here’s hoping you enjoy a terrific 2010 anyway!
Regards,
Patrick
