The street upon which I live doesn’t meet the municipal definition of a street – it’s narrow, isn’t “crowned” (meaning water collects in the center, rather than at the curb), lack curbs and has nary a sidewalk. None of this bothers me since, as I once explained to a new neighbor, it remains quiet enough that sometimes it feels like time stands still. Indeed, I commented, sometimes the 72 hours by which the city typically plows all roads can feel like 96 hours, or even a week on our little street – primarily because it often takes that long for crews to find their way past my home. Again, I don’t find this particularly bothersome, but others are less patient.
Given that, now that snow has returned to our fair city it seems timely to remind folks of the Street Maintenance Feedback Form. I’ve used it several times over the years and been impressed with departmental responsiveness. So, should you feel things are moving a little to slow on your street (and presuming you live within the Anchorage Road & Drainage Service Area), try going here and completing the fields.
Regards,
Patrick

Mr. Flynn, you seem more concerned about your city’s snow removal than the abuse toward the drivers of the trucks removing that snow. That is ok; most politicians are that way. The State Department of Labor is for sure.
Your city personnel working on removing snow are paid three times the cost of the city workers doing the same jobs or supporting the truck operations. The same is true of the State operations. The truck drivers are so abuse and drive such bad trucks the DOT and the City APD commercial vehicle inspectors red tag nine out of ten trucks inspected.
This is truely a horrible industry and the State and the City takes advantage, knowingly!
