Insider baseball, second inning

At long last, here’s the second edition of  “Assembly insider baseball” – another opportunity to test your knowledge of the trivial details that probably don’t pertain to municipal governance, but you never know…

Once again, clues may seem to point to more than one Assembly member – your challenge is to ferret out the best matches!

  1. Is training the family dog(s) to walk on a treadmill just in case icy days during the winter make “walkies” (my term) too perilous.
  2. Considered appealing the municipal assessment of a family property but, since the Assembly is the ultimate authority on assessments, decided not to do so.
  3. Had a relative who was an honest-to-goodness Socialist (to be fair, the historical alternative was Facist).
  4. Was told by a local blogger (and I’m paraphrasing here) that, “Michelle Obama’s arms got nuthin’ on yours.”
  5. Missed part of an Assembly meeting to attend a neighborhood water board meeting (said member is on the board but trying to shed that role).
  6. Developed aircraft hangers for local aviators.
  7. Has a daughter working in the Alaska Attorney General’s office.
  8. Actually gets paid to take an annual trip (as a guide) on the Colorado River.
  9. Cited season ticket sales for a local sports team as an economic indicator.
  10. Brought maple syrup samples to colleagues after a recent trip.
  11. Is rather enjoying “retirement,” though likely on a temporary basis.

There you have it, feel free to post your answers or e-mail them to me.  Because the web trolls advise that e-mail notification of new posts isn’t working correctly – meaning gremlins may prevent you from being aware of this post – I’ll let in run for a couple weeks before unveiling the real answers.  Best of luck!

Regards,

Patrick

  1. Hmm, there was a time when my acuity of individual assembly members was quite high, but I only recognize one of them (#8) from your 11 clues. In fact, I’m not certain I can even name the 11 current officials.

I am writing to express my appreciation of your vote Tuesday night.

I worked for the AFD for 15 years as a paramedic, paramedic/firefighter, paramedic supervisor, and battalion chief, I sat in nearly all of the chairs at the tables while working with, and in frank conflict with, both IAFF 1264 and municipal administrators. I have a very rare, objective insight of both sides and have countless things to say (and will say) about my experiences, but my point there is this:

Regardless of the issue, its magnitude, the might of an adversary, or my personal beliefs, I ALWAYS adhered to my core values: 1) the patient always comes first, and 2) do the right thing. The NEVER failed me,nor did I ever lose (admittedly, a few haven’t yet been resolved, but I am confident of remaining undefeated).

Your decision and vote strikes me as being the same. Perhaps you wished to vote differently (some of your peers certainly wanted you to), but you considered all things and then did the right thing. (please don’t burst my bubble if my suppositions are incorrect). Doing the right thing is always the right thing to do (isn’t profound, but very true).

BTW, my sincere thanks for writing me about #97-16. I’ve been swamped but do hope to reply in the near future.
