Regular followers of this blog may recall I’m a big fan of Alaska’s Golden Heart City (that would be Fairbanks for you Cheechakos). I’ve spent a lot of time in the Interior over the years (yes, mostly in the winter) and developed quite a fondness.
I hope it doesn’t sound condescending to say so but the smaller, closely-knit population of our Interior capital makes me a bit nostalgic for the somewhat similar Anchorage of my youth. And as the jumping-off point for commercial activity throughout Alaska’s northern region, including the North Slope, Fairbanks plays a critical role in our state’s economy.
Those are among the reasons I’m delighted to co-host a fundraiser for the Fairbanks North Star Borough mayor, Luke Hopkins. He’s coming to town next week so we “southerners” have an opportunity to learn more about our northern cousins. Here’s the details:
Time: Tuesday, June 26, 5-7 pm
Location: 2166 Belair Drive, the Turnagain home of Lloyd Miller & Heather Kendall Miller
Hope you’re enjoying your summer!
Regards,
Patrick
