Weather-wise the past few days in Anchorage have been pretty spectacular with warm, sunny conditions hinting at the promise of a spectacular Alaska summer. After all, few things make locals happier than compulsory lawn-watering to keep up with hot June sunshine.
So I’m sure it’s no surprise that my family and I have taken the opportunity to get outside and visit neighborhood parks from the Delaney Park Strip, to Westchester Lagoon to various spots along the Chester Creek Trail as far east as Eastchester Park in Fairview. And there’s still lots of ground to cover.
Visiting our community’s green spaces I’m often struck not only with neighborhood enthusiasm for outdoor activities during our all-too-short summer season, but also by the variety of events and people I see. Kite flying, soccer, baseball, softball, bocce (lawn bowling, of a sort), walking, biking, running, ultimate frisbee and frisbee golf, just to name a few. And a multitude of languages and cultures reflecting the incredible diversity of our home town. A special shout-out to the tremendous Bicycle Commuters of Anchorage volunteers for setting up treat stations at parks and trails all over Anchorage yesterday. I visited a couple and was impressed by both the numbers of bike commuters and the community enthusiasm.
Summer is looking good and Anchorage is displaying some of it’s best assets – enjoy!
Regards,
Patrick

And a big thanks to Assembly Members Flynn, Johnston and Ossiander for coming out to the BCA bacon station on Bike to Work Day and helping hand out treats and take part in the fun of Bike to Work Day.
